Welcome To The Custom World For those of you who have never had the pleasure of ordering a custom surfboard you are in for a real ride! Getting involved in the actual process of the making of your new board is a much more stylish and soulful approach on your quest for the magic model you need. Sure, you can always go and just buy one off the rack, and you'll be in the water with it that day, but the bottom line is:
Custom ordering a board built just for you is a wonderful process for the surfer who wants and expects a little more when the all important decision needs to be made on what you expect to get out of your first, or next surfboard. When browsing the internet in search of a shaper there are some things you should consider and ask yourself. "Does this website have an actual public location that is zoned properly, that you can visit?" If not, then they are probably operating illegally out of their house. Bear in mind that people are out there operating illegally and just because they have a pitcure of a warehouse that they "claim" to be operating out of, that in fact, may not be the case. Mike Doyle Custom Surfboards does not condone, nor can we respect shapers who operate in this manner. Another thing to consider is how long they have been in business. Feel free to drop by our facility anytime!!
The Materials We UseWe'd like to explain the tremendous search effort we have put into locating the finest polyesters and epoxy resins on the market right now. Our cloth, while being durable is also a brilliant white and our resins are superior in strength as well as clarity. All of these fine products are manufactured right here in Texas and we use this knowledge and availability to our advantage by cranking out a product that is superior in quality at a fair price. The polyurethane blanks we currently have in stock were manufactured at the Clark Foam Factory located in Laguna Niguel, California. They are the last of their kind due to the abrupt closing of Clark Foam in Dec of 2005. We still have a few in stock, however we are using Homeblown from San Diego as well as US Blanks, former employees of Clark Foam and Safari Foam from South Africa. The Skinny On EpoxyMike has built epoxy boards for years now using EPS blanks manufactured in Texas. They are usually on the high performance end of the building realm, but in the last year we had a run on epoxy longboards. Epoxies are lighter, give you more float, and are more responsive. It is a good weapon to have in your quiver, especially on small gutless days. If you are competing, an MDC epoxy is a MUST. We are currently tooled up to build the public ALL THINGS EPOXY. It is an exciting time because we know that the blanks have evolved in just the last 2 years. The cells are smaller, denser, and have more of a Clark Foam look and feel. MDC epoxies do not gas or delam. NOTE: EPOXY SURFBOARDS ARE MADE IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS, AND MANY COME FROM THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES!!! View |
