Sick Surf Report for Saturday, February 4, 2012 Surf today is running thigh high with yesterday's windy imprint still on it. definitely longboardable if you want to surf taody ahead of the front. Water temps are 67-68 degrees. Bouy to the S is 3.0 ft with an ESE swell direction. FORECAST: Small surf for the remainder of the day with a cold front coming in and a 60% chance for rain and 70% tomorrow. High on Sunday is predicted to be in the 50's. MDC GROMS ENJOY THE CONDITIONS AT BHP AT TGSA'S SEASON OPENER the CC OPEN presented by SCUTTLEBUTTS BAR AND GRILL
Conditions on Saturday were about as good as it gets for Texas contest surfing and the groms got on it and stayed on it all day. Sunday awoke to sunny skies and even better surf as they advanced into the finals. TGSA was forced to call off the day just before the finals however due to intense weather. The finals were held 2 weeks later in marginal, sweeping conditions. Nathan ended up taking 3rd in both Groms and Boys. Alana struggled to find waves in her Girls final and finished a respectable 2nd.

MDC rider Kyle Ferris (in white jersey on right) won his heat to advance into the finals and took home 4th in the 6 man final. Cody Canzoneri (in blue jersey) also advanced after winning his heat by catching a bomb and shooting the pier, but Kyle edged him out in the final with Cody placing 5th. Canzoneri who was recently added to the MDC roster has relocated to California.

When prestigous Austin based, French born world renowned guitar player Thierry Le Coz approached me with the idea, I thought he was crazy. The affair with evolution begins. The RPQ Magnum's mission is down the line velocity, while the straight barrel channels create an internal keel resulting in climactic explosive hits, ecstatic afterglow and the strong need for a cigarette. The one pictured above, left the shop today bound for the N.Shore. This particular board also surfed Igor on the east coast. Magic!

Waves were firing, the weather was inclimate at times, but bon fires were happening and this contest was super fun. The Air heat was a 6 man heat that was agreed on at the last minute by the urging of 6 of our craziest top competitors. Morgan Faulkner competed which made the men's final FIERCE.It was defintely TOE TO TOE. GREAT TIMES YESTERDAY FOR SURE!!

Masters Division title holder Zach May was out with an ACL injury. Surf was held on Saturday in waist high surf. Peaky SSE swell held althoguh inconsistent at times. The Men's Final was held late in the afternoon and the surf had picked up which made for a good duke out.

What a great day we had at Packery Channel. This contest marked ALOT of FIRSTS and made some HISTORY, and while the wave conditions were not primo, a good time was had by all for sure!!This contest marks the first event ever held at Packery and the first time EVER that the women won just as much money as the men in the Pro Division. Also, a big thank you to Anarchy Sunglasses for supplying ALL PODIUM PLACEMENTS with Anarchy and Angel eyewear. Also thank you to Cobian Sandals and Dakine for their booty packs. Congratulations to Corey Williams and Lauren Kenney who took home the cash, the booty and each won a custom MDC Longboard.
